Neptec offers robust Threat Detection solutions that can be applied on both ground and aerial surveillance vehicles, in both manned and unmanned configurations.

Neptec's Threat Detection system detects suspicious objects in real-time by finding changes in an environment between surveillance runs. The system combines a terrain database, a 3D laser data-gathering system, and an intelligent algorithm that detects changes while suppressing false alarms. When a change has been identified, the system can send a notification to the operator who can then decide upon any follow up action.
By using a 3D approach to the threat detection problem, Neptec's system gains many advantages over traditional 2D image systems. 3D laser systems are impervious to lighting conditions and will detect objects hidden in the dark or in shadows. A 3D laser system also collects dimensions rather than pictures of objects. This allows Neptec's system to be robust to changes in perspective due to different drivelines of a vehicle or altitudes of a surveillance plane. As well, Neptec's system can be tuned by an operator to detect only objects of a particular shape, size, or even location relative to other structures of interest.
Neptec's Threat Detection system avoids overloading existing communication infrastructure or the human operator by only outputting the most necessary information. Neptec's system integrates collection and analysis on the sensor end, avoiding data bottlenecks traditionally associated with 3D data. The system can also be integrated with existing surveillance systems – the outputs from the system can simply be superimposed on a standard 2D video feed or on a heads-up display. This reduces distractions to the operator and allows them to focus on their mission.
