Lab and Manufacturing Facilities Technologist

This position reports to our Manufacturing Manager and is based in Neptec’s Ottawa facility. This is a full time permanent position. The Lab and Manufacturing Facilities Tech will be responsible for the organization and monitoring of the labs and manufacturing facilities at Neptec, including fixed and portable clean rooms. Additional responsibilities will be to support facility maintenance and also may be tasked to support shipping/receiving and stores activities such as inventory maintenance.

Basic Duties:

Neptec currently maintains several distinct lab areas including a high bay that is divided into a number of sections for medium-range optical instrument testing and calibration as well as rover integration and testing, a manufacturing area, a modest machine shop, a circuit card cleaning area, a clean-room, a fume hood area for materials work and conformal coating, two portable clean rooms and three electrical test labs. At any given time, each is in use by one or more distinct project groups. Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure that all labs and manufacturing area are maintained in a clean, organized fashion and that supplies required in each area are available;
  • Ensure personnel working in these areas are kept aware of their responsibilities in maintaining the facility and equipment and provide training as necessary;
  • Modification or fabrication of test setups or models to support testing;
  • Maintain lab equipment and facilities in a ready state for formal and informal test activities;
  • Ensure tool control is in place in all areas;
  • In collaboration with QA support equipment calibration and maintenance;
  • Ensure facility ISO procedures are updated as required to support the current facility configurations;
  • Support shipping and receiving activities;
  • Support stores control activities;
  • Run basic lab equipment checkout procedures as required;
  • Provide support to facility maintenance such as configuration of office areas, personnel moving, minor repairs.

Education and Experience:

  • Technician or technologist diploma or equivalent and at least 5 years relevant experience.

Skills:

  • Excellent team player with good communication skills;
  • Knowledge and familiarity with a broad range of electrical lab and test equipment and tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, cameras, basic laser test equipment, PC’s, power supplies, etc.;
  • Knowledge and familiarity with basic wood working and machining equipment;
  • Previous experience in a multidisciplinary Engineering/Manufacturing environment;
  • Proficient in basic office software applications;

The successful candidate must be a Canadian or US citizen, fulfill requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and have, or be able to attain, a Canadian Security Clearance at the Level II/Secret Level.
