Ottawa: Six firms win space contracts

Article from the Ottawa Citizen

A half dozen Ottawa companies received nearly $2 million worth of contracts to work on the design of new space technologies and applications, Industry Canada announced yesterday. The contracts were part of $10.3 million in funding for 36 contracts awarded across the country. Contracts for $500,000 went to EMS Technologies Canada Inc., Neptech Design Group and Telesat Canada. The remaining three contracts, each for around $150,000, went to Gain Microwave, EION Inc. and Flywheel Energy Systems Inc. The investments in niche markets such as robotics, remote sensing, satellite communications components and radar, help support Canada's industry and maintain a level playing field with other countries that heavily support their own areas of expertise, said Industry Minister Maxime Bernier in a statement.
