The Canadian Space Agency has given six Ottawa companies contracts worth nearly $1.9 million to research and develop new space technologies and applications. Delivered through the agency's Space Technology Development Program, the contracts are among 36 projects totaling $10.3 million awarded to companies nationwide. "The investments announced are crucial for supporting Canada's leadership position in niche markets such as robotics, remote sensing, satellite communication components and radar, and for making groundbreaking technologies market-ready," says Industry Minister Maxime Bernier, whose purview includes the CSA. Local companies given contracts are EION., EMS Satcom, Flywheel Energy Systems, GAIN Microwave, Neptec Design Group and Telesat Canada.
