Executive Summary

Neptec is the Leading Supplier and Integrator of Machine Vision Systems for Space Applications

Privately owned and founded in 1990, Neptec has made it a practice to reinvest profits, continually building on its core technologies. Neptec has become the leading supplier and integrator of machine vision systems for space applications.

A NASA prime contractor since 1995, Neptec has been supplying operational systems to both the Space Shuttle and International Space Station programs. Starting in 2000, Neptec began expanding its technology to include active 3D imaging systems and 3D processing software. This work led directly to the development of Neptec's Laser Camera System, which is an operational system used by NASA to inspect the shuttle's external surfaces during flight.

Building on the success of the Laser Camera System technology, Neptec is now offering a 3D imaging and tracking system designed for automated on-orbit rendezvous, inspection and docking. The new proprietary system, known as TriDAR, is a unique and innovative design that combines a high precision, short range triangulation sensor with a long range LIDAR sensor in one efficient and compact package.

Offering the same basic intelligent 3Di philosophy (intelligent 3D collection and processing) that underpins both the Laser Camera System and the TriDAR, Neptec is expanding its business into the industrial automation and the defense and security markets.

Neptec has developed a unique standoff metrology product for the industrial automation market. The Laser Metrology System can make high precision direct point measurements like a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) and is also able to make full digital surface models.

New and Innovative 3D Processing Products

Focused on providing new and innovative 3D processing products, Neptec offers fully functional smart 3D sensors as well as intelligent, embedded image processing and analysis tools that are designed to increase the effectiveness of existing sensor platforms. By integrating intelligent processing with sensor technology Neptec is able to provide a wide range of advanced functions including automated target recognition, object classification and real time object tracking.

Neptec has spent the last fifteen years earning a reputation as a dependable supplier of mission critical hardware and software to NASA's manned spaceflight programs. Neptec is now combining its commitment to quality and its depth of experience developed over 10 years as a NASA prime contractor with a new and innovative approach to 3D data exploitation; becoming a supplier and integrator of 3D sensor systems across wider markets.

A NASA Prime Contractor

Operating the Space Vision Laboratory at the NASA Johnson Space Center

A prime contractor to NASA since the initial contract in 1995, Neptec is leveraging its position as the dominant supplier of space vision systems to become the primary supplier of vision systems for space exploration and satellite servicing applications.

Having developed considerable in-depth expertise in mission planning and operations support for manned space flight, Neptec has operated the Space Vision Laboratory at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston since 1992. Providing support for mission planning, astronaut training, real time mission ground support and post-mission data analysis, Neptec incorporated a USA subsidiary, Neptec USA, in 1998. Neptec USA has mission support facilities and offices in Houston to manage and staff the mission operations support business.

Neptec's current staff level is approximately 80. Composed primarily of engineers, Neptec also employs software developers, program managers, product assurance specialists, and production, assembly and test specialists certified for manufacturing equipment for manned space programs. Neptec's management team has demonstrated an ability to profitably generate growth and manage change. Growth has been financed almost entirely from operations by reinvesting profits in research and development, continuously building the capabilities of Neptec's core sensor and image processing technologies.
